Weightlifting & Hypertrophy Training

I still remember the first day I stepped into the gym, I couldn't help but feel helpless and lost as I looked through different machines that looked Complex and even made me feel confused at times. But I was still so excited to begin my fitness journey and finally build the body that I've been wanting. The Fitness world can be very complex but over the years I've been able to gather the most important things a beginner lifter should know and just about everything you need to know to accomplish your goal in the gym.

To achieve success in the gym you have to really understand your goal. The reason I decided to begin working out and got a gym membership was because I wanted to lose weight and build muscle. I always dreamt of the solid abs and huge arms but For a while it was just a dream. Some may be targeting fat loss, others are trying to put on weight or maybe even just focusing on staying overall healthy, understanding your goal allows you to take the necessary steps to achieve it. Consider the human body to be a machine, This machine will increase/decrease in size depending on the number of Calories consumed in a 24 hour period. The secret to achieving your goal is finding YOUR target number, otherwise known as your daily caloric balance, this is the number of Calories it takes to maintain your specific body weight. This number is usually found using a Calorie Calculator which asks for your age, gender, height, weight, and activity level. This calculator will then output numbers that vary depending on the goal of weight gain or weight loss. For me this part was always the most difficult, the gym requires high amounts of discipline in order to see results and like others I just didn't understand what I was doing wrong.
Choosing the gym as my first hobby was probably the best decision I've ever made, and with the rise of obesity in the United States, I feel as if everyone should put in effort into their physical health and a gym membership is a great way to do that, whether that's strength training or even 30 minutes of cardio on a Treadmill!
I completely agree with your statement on using calculators to find "your" caloric intake as a lot of first time gym goers will see people saying "you need to cut calories" and think that means to completely stop eating and lose weight. When, if you give your body its proper caloric intake while prioritizing macros such as protein, you can see even higher weight loss potential.
ReplyDeleteI found your post very interesting, especially because it describes so honestly what it's like to start out at the gym. That feeling of being lost among so many machines and techniques must be something that many go through, but it's also inspiring to see how you managed to find your way and turn it into a lifestyle.
ReplyDeleteI really liked how you explained the importance of understanding caloric balance and how each person has to adapt their training to their own goals. It seems that discipline and patience are key, something that not everyone manages to maintain. I guess that's why there's such a noticeable difference between those who really commit and those who just try for a while.
Definitely, after reading this, I was left thinking about how important it is to take care of physical health... although of course, some seem to do it with more dedication and passion than others. 😉
