 What does that mean?

Ever since I was a little kid I struggled with overthinking but I never bothered to question it until about 3 months ago. why do we Overthink? what causes our head to go to the absolute worst case scenario every time? What causes us to think the way we do, and what causes other people to think in different ways. After some exploring on the internet I found this book, and while it doesn't explain everything it showed me a new perspective on our ideas and thoughts that I feel needs to be shared. Joseph Nguyen, explains the difference between our thoughts and ideas how our thoughts and ideas effect our everyday lives in ways we do not realize.

 Thoughts VS Ideas

Although the author explores many different aspects of thinking what really caught my eye was the comparison of Thoughts versus Ideas. Nguyen separates the two mental processes and describes Thought as a "conditioned response" meaning that our thoughts can be influenced by past experiences, are often a reaction to something and can stem from previous experiences. Our thoughts can be repetitive and occur from a habit or cycle that we follow in our everyday lives. Nguyen goes on to explain that our thoughts are not "fact", meaning that they have no truth or power unless we the creators of the thoughts give them power ourselves. This is essentially the meaning of "don't believe everything you think", When a thought occurs, it has the power to control the rest of your day or even change the way you believe/view a certain situation. What Nguyen explains is that it is up to us to not give that thought power over us, to not believe it or even acknowledge it at all. To stop overthinking it is important to not acknowledging the thoughts that can control us.

Furthermore, the author explains Ideas in the opposite way. While our thoughts can hold power over us and lead us in a negative direction, our ideas come from within, usually when the mind is relaxed and able to think naturally. Our ideas don't come from anxiety or insecurity the same way a thought can but rather can open up new possibilities for us if we choose to act on them. While this may sound a little far-fetched, what Nguyen is essentially saying is that ideas stem from creativity and relaxation like having an idea while on a walk or maybe even a shower thought.

To summarize the perspective of Thoughts vs Ideas its important to remember that our minds can be compared to a highway of thoughts and ideas and while I can't fully go in depth about this perspective I can say that the key takeaway is that not every thought is worth believing but an Inspiring idea is worth chasing.

Entry #10. 8 Hours a night.

Bedtime: NOT LATE ENOUGH! Image Source      Growing up every kid has one enemy that ends up being their best friend in the future: sleep. Sleep is something that every adults overlooks as a kid, part of being a kid is hating bed time, and as a kid I made it my personal mission to find a way to stay up somehow after my parents made me go to bed. And while i was successful at staying up at night, I was failing the ability to wake up in time for school. From a young age this habit slowly carried into my teenage years and has slowly crept into my adult years as well causing me to lookback on past experiences and understand the importance of building good habits from a young age. As I get older I learn the benefits of adequate sleep as a child and I can't help but wonder what would be different about me If I just got a little more sleep while I was developing. Any successful person knows that one of the most important if not the most important activity is sleep, sleep i...

What it was & What it is   Image Source      Hashtags are one of the most popular concurrent social media terms to date, The evolution of the Hashtag or pound sign depending on the name you grew up hearing. Originally the hashtag carried many uses, Some say that the hashtag closely resemble a set of stripes on a soldiers sleeve and others know it for the use of the symbol before a number to give that number a "tag", For example (" Item #5 on the list"). But the Hashtag began to gain traction in the early 2010s, and took social media by storm. Once a simple symbol, it was transformed into a highway for people to find topics of interest through the use of  popular social media sites. Twitter was the first platform to adopt the symbol and quickly integrate it into its day to day use, turning the idea into a viable marketing tactic. Popular sites like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and even YouTube shortly took after Twitter by beginning to introduce ...
